Mantras

Mantras are ancient and sacred, and they help in meditation. The following are mantras originating from the Vedas, which date back before most, if not all, formalized religions. You may find these helpful, or you can use any other prayer that is close to your heart.

Asatoma Sadgamaya
Tamasoma Jyotir Gamaya
Mrtyorma Amrtan Gamaya

“Lead us from the unreal to the real,
Lead us from the dark to light,
Lead us from the fear of death to the knowledge of immortality.”

Tvamava mata ca pita tvameva
Tvamava bandhu scasaka tvameva
Tvamava vidya dravinum tvameva
Tvamava sarvan mama deva
deva

“You are my mother and father
You are my relative and my friend
You are knowledge and wealth
You are everything, my God, my God.”

Om bhur bhuva svah
Tat savitur varenyam
Bhargo devasya dhimahi
Dhiyoyo nah pracodayat
(repeat 3x)

“We meditate on the glory of that Being who has produced this universe
May He enlighten our minds.”
